The Great Experiment, Day 5 (day)

Wednesday, June 5 - Day 5 of The Great Experiment, June 1-10, 2019

Transcript:

Hi, I'm pastor Dimas, and one of these verses that really, really encourages me is in John Chapter 21, where Jesus really starts to challenge people about their love towards Him and it really connects with what people do for Christ.

Now, before I read the verse, I want to tell you this story that I read in this little book that describes why God used D.L. Moody. So D.L. Moody made a promise to God that he was going to share his faith every single day. And then one day he forgot, just like we do. He was in bed. So he jumps up like [at] one [o'clock] in the morning. He looks outside and he sees a man and he says, "Hey," and he screams towards the guy. The guy looks and D.L. Moody starts to run towards him. The guy takes off running. D.L. Moody's in Chicago, running after him as fast as he can.

The guy finally gets to his door, takes out his key, opens it. When he tries to run, D.L. Moody grabs the door, runs upstairs. The guy dived under his bed. D.L. Moody dived under this man's bed and said, "Would you accept Christ?" And the guy said, "I will. I will accept Christ." And whenever I hear that story, I'm like, that is true commitment. It' a little wild. It's a little extreme, but it's a commitment. It's making a decision to do something great for God and you're holding yourself accountable.

And I love in this book, in John 21 where Jesus says, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?" And he said to him, "Yes Lord, you know I love you." So Jesus said to him, "Feed my lambs." He said to him again, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?" He said to him, "Yes Lord, you know I love you." He said to him, "Tend my sheep." Then Jesus said a third time to him, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?" Peter was grieved because he said to him the third time, "Do you love me" And he said to him, "Lord, you know all things, you know that I love you." Jesus said to him, "Feed my sheep."

So what's significant about this is that Jesus is like, "If you really love me, show me. Go and do something in my name. Do something worthy of my name. Go out. Tell people about me. Share the love of Jesus. Minister to people. Don't care for me, just like a friend. Don't look at my Bible like it's just a menu ... I can pick and choose what I want. But no, be a representative of me to this world." And I'm telling you, one of the greatest things you can do this week is go out and share the love of Jesus with others. And I want to encourage you to do that. Be systematic about it. Challenge yourself. Push yourself. Do something you never did before, and expect to see something that you've never seen before.

God bless you. Keep looking up. Keep Christ number one. Peace.

______

Here is this evening's guide for the “Five Rs” of The Great Experiment, June 1-10, 2019.

1. Read and Pray

Psalm 96:2-4 – Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised.

Read Psalm 96:1-13 for more context.

This morning's Prayer Points

  • Take time to worship the Lord. Sing to him. Bless His name.
  • Ask God to give you opportunities today to declare His glory.
  • Pray the same for Christians around the nation and in other nations.

2. Repent.
What sins do I need to repent of today? What hindrances to my devotion to Christ can I remove today?

3. Respond to the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit, what is the one thing you most want me to do today? (Write it down, and do it today).

4. Represent Christ.
How will I bear witness to Christ today? With whom shall I share the Gospel today?

5. Raise Your Faith.
Be bold and courageous in living out your faith (Joshua 1:8,9). Choose from one of the following options for a “Joshua Faith Challenge”:

  1. Host an all-night prayer meeting. Set a date during June 1-10 and invite friends to come and pray with you for revival in America.
  2. Every day, pray for ten friends and family members to come to faith in Christ and look for opportunities to share the gospel with them.
  3. Share an evangelistic post on social media every day from June 1-10.
  4. Anything else the Lord burdens you to take on that will require courageous faith.
