Prayer Guide for CU Rise

Christian Union Universities (CUU) develops transformative Christian leaders at the nation’s most influential universities. Jesus Christ is the source of salvation and wisdom, life and peace, for all people. In addition to ministering to Christian students, CUU seeks to expose every student at each university to the gospel message 3-5 times every year.

CU Rise is an extraordinary evangelist effort planned for March to May of 2022, to help make this goal of 3-5 gospel exposures possible. It is very likely that CU Rise will constitute the largest Christian outreaches in the history of these universities. Great prayer is required for such a monumental spiritual endeavor.

CU Rise will utilize online advertising, primarily Instagram and YouTube, to reach non-Christian students with the gospel. Online marketing allows advertisers to reach very specific audiences based on age, location, school affiliation,. CUU will use these advertising strategies for the sake of the kingdom of God. Through their phones, tablets, and computers students will encounter a range of attractive gospel messages and be prompted to make a decision and find out more (see #christianunionrise and #curise on Instagram)

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!”
— Romans 10:14-15

…making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel
— Ephesians 6:18-19

Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men.

  9. Lord, send forth Your word with power and demonstration of the Spirit to penetrate hard hearts and bring about new births, in Jesus’ name.
  10. Father, remember all the prayers of Your people over these universities. Hear, remember, and make these places a praise for You in the earth, in Jesus’ mighty name.
  11. Lord, make many Christian Union faculty members and students like Stephen so that non-believers cannot withstand the wisdom and Spirit with which Your people speak.
  12. Lord, give endurance and hope to CUU faculty and students as they plan, prepare, and execute CU Rise.
  13. Give Christian Union faculty members and student leaders hearts of compassion for the lost so that they weep over their estate, pray fervently for their salvation, and work diligently to present Christ to all.
  14. Father, take away spiritual lethargy from Your people at these universities and stir in them a zeal for Your name above all things.
  15. Lord, remove all worldly cares from the hearts of Your people at these universities that keeps them from pleasing You and being living examples of Jesus Christ.
  16. Father, fill Your people with supernatural love for others such that outsiders come to Christ because of their sacrificial love, as You promised.
  17. Father, provide the financial resources to spread the gospel throughout these universities until every corner of every campus hears the great name of Jesus.
  18. Lord God, work dramatic conversions through CU Rise, so that many see and hear that Jesus Christ can change the hardest heart and transform the worst sinner.
  19. Lord Jesus, equip Your people to expose every false idea and evil practice in the light of truth.

Matthew 16:24-28
[24] Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. [25] For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. [26] For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? [27] For the Son of Man is going to come with his angels in the glory of his Father, and then he will repay each person according to what he has done. 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ 44 Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ 45 Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ 46 And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

2 Corinthians 3:15-17; 4:3-4
Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. . . . And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.

I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. 23 I do it all for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings.

Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest. 36 Already the one who reaps is receiving wages and gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

1 Timothy 4:10-13
For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. 11 Command and teach these things. 12 Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.

Ezekiel 33:1-9
The word of the Lord came to me: 2 “Son of man, speak to your people and say to them, If I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and make him their watchman, 3 and if he sees the sword coming upon the land and blows the trumpet and warns the people, 4 then if anyone who hears the sound of the trumpet does not take warning, and the sword comes and takes him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet and did not take warning; his blood shall be upon himself. But if he had taken warning, he would have saved his life. 6 But if the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet, so that the people are not warned, and the sword comes and takes any one of them, that person is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at the watchman's hand.  7 “So you, son of man, I have made a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me. 8 If I say to the wicked, O wicked one, you shall surely die, and you do not speak to warn the wicked to turn from his way, that wicked person shall die in his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 9 But if you warn the wicked to turn from his way, and he does not turn from his way, that person shall die in his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul.

Romans 10:9-12
…if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in Him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on Him.

2 Thessalonians 3:1-3
Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, 2 and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith. 3 But the Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.

Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. [3] At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison—[4] that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak. [5] Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. When I get an opportunity I will summon you.”
