One children and family court judge was recently asked, “What is the greatest way we can help children and future generations?”
His answer: Help parents.
We need to pray for Christian parents to disciple their children in Christ with intentionality and passion. The Bible says:
Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord,
the fruit of the womb a reward.
Like arrows in the hand of a warrior
are the children of one's youth.
Blessed is the man
who fills his quiver with them!
He shall not be put to shame
when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
— Psalm 127:3-5
Christian parents have arrows in their hands. They have the rare opportunity to defeat the works of Satan by aiming their kids in a godly direction and releasing them into their own gifts and callings for the mission of Christ.
Statistics show that our nation’s youngest generations have less interest in God. About one-third of today’s youngest generation declares no religion at all. Let’s pray for a great reversal in this trend.
Parenting is no easy task. It takes extreme love, wisdom, and patience. No mom or dad can do the work of Christ-centered parenting without the Holy Spirit’s help.
Let’s pray for Christian parents to take up their high calling each day. Let pray that they will take forethought and discipline to raise their kids in Christ. Jonathan Edwards said that the family is like a little church. Pray that parents would see themselves as pastors and their children as church members, having accountability to one another and a goal for daily encouragement, comfort, and edification. Let’s pray for a new generational trend as Christian households begin shooting arrows that hit the mark.
